It's been a while since I've written any free form poetry. Don't expect anything to rhyme because it probably won't! I had a beautiful walk today on my lunch break. I saw something few people get to see.

I Saw a Tree Fall Apart

Holy and hidden - not meant for anyone's eyes -

What can I learn from you?

You, standing up tall over our heads.

You, never growing anything - never trying anymore.

You, witnessing.

You, never speaking.

I watch you, unchanging.

We nod to each other in the wind, season to season, quiet friend.

Today.

Holy and hidden - not meant for anyone's eyes -

What can I learn from you?

You, standing up tall over our heads.

You, falling away from yourself - piece by piece.

Me, witnessing.

Us, never speaking.

I watch you . . . changing.

I won't tell anybody about it - the sound.

If a tree falls in the forest and somebody hears it . . .

But you didn't fall in the forest.

You didn't fall.

You fell apart.

And I did, too.

What can I learn from you?

Holy and hidden - not meant for anyone's eyes.
